A school-based physical therapist evaluates, plans, and implements interventions to help students with disabilities succeed in their educational environment. They work with students of all ages and disabilities, collaborating with educators, parents, and other professionals to ensure students achieve their educational goals. School-based physical therapists focus on functional movement and participation in school activities.
Key Responsibilities:
Evaluation and Assessment:
Conducts comprehensive assessments to determine a student's physical needs and how they impact their educational progress.
Treatment Planning:
Develops individualized treatment plans that address functional limitations and promote participation in school activities.
Intervention and Implementation:
Provides physical therapy interventions to improve motor skills, mobility, and functional abilities.
Collaboration and Communication:
Works collaboratively with educators, parents, and other professionals to ensure a cohesive approach to student support.
IEP Development and Participation:
Contributes to the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) to address the student's physical needs.
Environmental Modifications:
Recommends and implements environmental modifications to ensure students can access their educational environment safely and effectively.
Progress Monitoring and Reporting:
Monitors student progress, maintains records, and reports on their functioning and progress.
