General Job Description:
A school counselor helps students with academic, personal, and social development, often acting as a bridge between students, teachers, and parents. They provide guidance and support to help students succeed in school and beyond, including career and college planning. Key responsibilities include individual and group counseling, conflict resolution, academic advising, and crisis intervention.
Assisting students with course selection, academic planning, and understanding school policies and procedures.
Providing guidance and counseling to help students manage emotions, develop social skills, and build positive relationships.
Mediating disputes between students, or between students and teachers, and helping to foster a positive school environment.
Responding to and managing crises, providing support to students in distress, and connecting them with appropriate resources.
Working closely with teachers, parents, administrators, and other school staff to support student success.
Utilizing assessments to understand student strengths, weaknesses, and interests, and using this information to guide their development.
