Assistant Principal, Elementary  - Queensbury Union Free School District is seeking a dynamic educational leader for the position of Elementary Assistant Principal effective on 7/1/25.  Successful administrative experience preferred.  Valid NYS Certification: SAS, SDA or SBL.  Competitive salary and excellent benefits.

Assistant Principal QES

Minimum Qualifications:

Preferred Requirements:  

Evidence of successful administrative experience

Reports to:  Principal or designee

Supervises:  Teachers, pupil personnel staff, paraprofessionals/support staff and students                

Purpose of Position:  Assists the QES Principal with the administration of the educational program, including but not limited to the supervision and evaluation of staff assigned to him/her.  Utilizes his/her leadership and administrative skills to promote the educational development of each student.  

Terms of Employment: Twelve month position. Salary and working conditions in accordance with the agreement between the District and the Queensbury Administrators Association.   Performance of this position and its responsibilities will be evaluated annually by the Principal or designee.

Performance Responsibilities:

  1.  Building Leadership

    1. Assists with the establishment and promotion of high standards and expectations for all students and staff for academic performance and responsibility for self and others;

    2. Assists in maintaining an emotionally healthy and physically safe environment conducive to the total educational development of the students and the professional development of the staff, and provides for emergency situations;

    3. Assists with the planning and organization of all all school-related activities;

    4. Disciplines students as necessary;

    5. Tracks and monitors SSEC information;

    6. Acts as 504 Coordinator; 

    7. Prepares or supervises the preparation of reports, records, lists, and all other paperwork required and/or appropriate to the school’s administration;

    8. Assists in supervising the daily use of the school facilities for both academic and nonacademic purposes;

    9. Participates as a committee member of the Building Leadership Team and Shared Decision Making Team;

    10. Attends and participates in PTSA Committee meetings;

    11. Keeps the Principal informed of the school’s activities and problems;

    12. Assists in supervision of the cafeteria for daily lunch program.

  2. Instructional Leadership

    1. Collaborates with the Principal on instructional best practices, strategies and professional development needs;

    2. Supports a culture of collegiality within the framework of Professional Learning Communities; 

    3. Initiates and encourages teacher use of student data from local and state assessments to improve instruction;

    4. Assists with overseeing the implementation of local and state assessments;

    5. Assists with the development, revision, and evaluation of the curriculum, including but not limited to serving on curriculum committees;

    6. Assists with the supervision of the school’s teaching process through both announced and unannounced observations;

    7. Facilitates the Character Education Committee;

    8. Acts as the Transitional Coordinator for grades 3-5;

    9. Participates as a committee member of the various K-3 curricular committees.

  3. Personnel and Employee Relations

    1. Supervises and evaluates professional, paraprofessional, and support personnel attached to the school and assigned to him/her for that purpose;

    2. Oversees scheduling: Master, support staff, and all assemblies that occur throughout the year;

    3. Assists with the orientation of newly assigned/hired staff members and assists in their development, as appropriate;

    4. Assists with staff meetings on a regular basis for proper functioning of the school and to keep staff members informed of such things as policy changes and new programs; 

    5. Assists with recommendations, while following established procedures, for the removal of a teacher or other staff member whose work is unsatisfactory;

    6. Assists with the in-service training/professional development provided on superintendent conference days;

    7. Assists in the recruitment, selection, and hiring of new staff for the building;

    8. Delegates authority to responsible personnel to assume responsibility for the school in the absence of the assistant principal and/or principal;

    9. Participates on the Response to Intervention Committee and Literacy Team. 

  4. Student/Parent/Community Relations

    1. Maintains active two-way communications with students, parents, and the community through the use of technology and other media;

    2. Makes arrangements for special conferences between parents and teachers;

    3. Supervises and evaluates the school’s extracurricular program, including but not limited to all clubs and activities;

    4. Assists with cafeteria fines;

    5. Assists with the administrative coverage required during after school activities and evening events;

    6. Functions as the Attendance Coordinator; 

    7. Assists with the development and distribution of QES Planner/Agenda.

  5. Other Duties

    1. Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field;

    2. Functions as Safety Coordinator for the QES;

    3. Participates in building department meetings, district-level meetings, Board meetings, negotiation meetings, and such other meetings as are required or appropriate;

    4. Responds to written and oral requests for information;

    5. Cooperates with college and university officials regarding teacher training and preparation programs;

    6. Oversees website maintenance for the QES;

    7. Oversees E-School Messenger communications for the QES;

    8. Performs other related duties as assigned;

    9. Coordinates QES events information with District Communication Specialist.
