Job Description

Library Media Specialist, Elementary School -  Anticipated probationary position effective 9/1/25. NYS certification required. Minimum salary $51,518, actual salary based on education and experience pursuant to the wage schedule posted on the district’s website. 

Job Qualifications

NYS certification required. 

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

• Instruction and Support:

  • Teach students and staff how to use library resources effectively, including databases, online resources, and research strategies. 
  • Provide one-on-one or group instruction on information literacy, critical thinking, and digital citizenship. 
  • Collaborate with teachers to integrate library resources and instruction into the curriculum. 
  • Assist students with research projects, providing guidance on finding, evaluating, and using information. 
  • Promote reading and literacy development through book talks, reading challenges, and other activities. 

• Collection Management:

  • Acquire, organize, and maintain the library's collection of books, periodicals, digital resources, and other materials. 
  • Select and evaluate new materials, considering the needs of the students and the school's curriculum. 
  • Classify and catalog library materials, ensuring they are easily accessible to users.
