Assistant Principal, High School - Queensbury Union Free School District is seeking a dynamic educational leader for the position of High School Assistant Principal effective on or about 8/3/26.  Successful administrative experience preferred.  Valid NYS Certification: SAS, SDA or SBL.  Competitive salary and excellent benefits.

NYS Certification – SAS, SDA, or SBL.

Preferred Requirements:  

Evidence of successful administrative experience.

Reports to:  Principal or designee

Supervises:  Teachers, pupil personnel staff, paraprofessionals/support staff         

Purpose of Position:  To utilize leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills to promote the educational development of each student.  

Terms of Employment: Twelve-month year.  Salary and working conditions in accordance with the agreement between the District and the Queensbury Administrators Association.   Performance of this position and its responsibilities will be evaluated annually by the Principal or designee.

Performance Responsibilities:

  1.  Building leadership

    1. Supports and promotes high standards and expectations for all students and staff for academic performance and responsibility for self and others;

    2. Supports and maintains an emotionally healthy and physically safe environment conducive to the total educational development of the students and the professional development of the staff, and provides for emergency situations;

    3. Assists with the maintenance of all required building records and reports;   

    4. Assists with the preparation of reports, records, lists, and all other paperwork required and/or appropriate to the school’s administration;

    5. Assumes responsibilities for High School data warehouse analysis; 

    6. DASA Coordinator;

    7. Oversees AIS Management;

    8. District Safety Committee Representative;

    9. Responsible for the creation of the Master Schedule and assignment of duties of teachers and support staff;

    10. Responsible for opening and closing of school procedures;

    11. Technology Committee Representative;

    12. Keeps the Principal informed of the school’s activities and problems;

    13. Responsible for 10th and 12th grade student management, including but not limited to attending dances, discipline, senior privileges, graduation meetings etc.  (This rotates each year and APs stay with their students);

    14. Maintain and update the Teacher, Student,  and Substitute Handbooks;

  2. Instructional leadership

    1. Collaborates with the Principal and Assistant Superintendent for Instruction on instructional best practices, strategies and professional development needs;

    2. Supports and maintains a culture of collegiality within the framework of Professional Learning Communities; 

    3. Supports and encourages teacher use of student data from local and state assessments to improve instruction;

    4. Regional Summer School Principal (Alternates each Summer);

    5. Credit Recovery Committee Liaison; 

    6. Oversees Bridges program;

    7. Oversees initiatives to improve graduation rate 

    8. Supports the implementation of local and state assessments;

    9. Assists with the development, revision, and evaluation of the curriculum, including but not limited to serving on curriculum committees;

    10. Assists with the supervising the school’s teaching process through both informal (walk-throughs) and formal observation and evaluation;

    11. Assists with the development and implementation of 21st Century classrooms and/or other educational technology initiatives;

    12. Assists with the supervision of all activities and programs that are outgrowths of the school’s curriculum (e.g. IB program, Early College Career Academy).

  3. Personnel and Employee Relations

    1. Supervises and evaluates professional staff and paraprofessional, and support personnel attached to the school; 

    2. Administrative liaison for English, Social Studies, CSE;

    3. Approves the master teaching schedule and any special assignments;

    4. Assists with orientation of newly assigned/hired staff members and assists in their development, as appropriate;

    5. Assists with the in-service training/professional development provided on superintendent conference days and other required training;

    6. Assists in the recruitment, selection, and hiring of new staff for the building;

    7. May assume responsibility for the school in the absence of the principal.

  4. Student/Parent/Community Relations

    1. Maintains active two-way communications with students, parents, and the community through the use of technology and other media;

    2. Makes arrangements for special conferences between parents and teachers;

    3. Oversees student attendance and Schooltool Reporting; 

    4. Participates in student recognition events and assemblies;

    5. Supports afterschool activities and dances (TBD by activity calendar);

    6. Acts as a liaison between the school and the community, interpreting activities and policies of the school and encouraging community participation in school life.

  5. Other Duties

    1. Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field;

    2. Participates and supports the Strategic Plan and district initiatives;

    3. Participates in building department meetings, district-level meetings, Board meetings, negotiation meetings, and such other meetings as are required or appropriate;

    4. Responds to written and oral requests for information;

    5. Cooperates with college and university officials regarding teacher training and preparation programs;

    6. Performs other related duties as assigned.
