Strong  teaching experience and/or educational background in special education and literacy.  Experience as CSE/CPSE and/or 504 Chairperson.  Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Purpose of Position:

The Associate Director of Student Support Services develops protocols and procedures, collaboratively with administrators and staff, to ensure the effective implementation of federal and state regulations related to IDEA, Section 504 Implementation and students who are struggling academically.   The Associate Director provides educational leadership and oversight of District CSE and CPSE and supports the achievement of District and building goals, and the implementation of Board of Education policies and directives.

Duties:

  1. Instructional Leadership:

  1. Provides instructional leadership to all staff, including aligning special education instructional practices to the Next Generation Learning Standards, implementing Explicit Systematic Direct Instruction all programs for academic and social emotional skill development;

  2. Maintains close collaborative relationships with building and district  administrators and supports principals in crisis situations involving special education students; 

  3. Provides information and assistance to teachers regarding IEP development and implementation;

  4. Supports the facilitation of Professional Learning Communities for District teachers, psychologists, social workers, OTs, PTs and speech therapists to increase their pedagogical skills;

  5. Collaborates with other student support services staff to partner with principals and other school staff in working with students who experience personal, social and/or emotional issues that prevent the student from achieving in the classroom setting;

  6. Coordinates and compiles, with the assistance of the Technology Department, student specific data to assist teachers with data to inform their instruction;

  7. Analyzes data collected by the District on Student Support Services effectiveness, student achievement for students with disabilities, behavior data and attendance data for all students supported by the Student Support Services Office;

  8. Participates in the (MTSS) RtI program.

  9. CSE/CPSE Chairperson Leadership:  

  10. Provides educational leadership and oversight of the District CSE and CPSE activities.  Ensures that all decisions are made in compliance with federal and state requirements;

  11. Supervises the CPSE Chairperson who oversees all CPSE, Kindergarten and transition to Grade K; 

  12. Ensures that IEPs are consistent with the highest standards, accurately reflect the student’s needs, include assessments to assess progress accurately and provide accommodations and supports that are consistent with student’s needs.  

  13. Works cooperatively with staff and administration to ensure that IEPs are implemented appropriately;  

  14. Ensures that all due process rights are provided to families, evaluators are timely in conducting evaluations, CSE meetings are adhere to regulatory guidelines, and parents are informed of the results of the evaluations and the relationship of the assessment results to the needs of their child.  Ensures that all written materials are in compliance with federal, state, and local requirements;

  15. Develops collaboratively with staff, principals and Director, descriptions of all programs that will be available for consideration by the CSE/CPSE, including the learner characteristics of students in the classroom, supports to the student as part of the program, supports to teachers and to families. Ensures that parents receive descriptions on the programs recommended by the CSE or CPSE for their student at the CSE/CPSE meeting;

  16. Facilitates CSE/CPSE meetings effectively and efficiency; 

  17. Ensures that all CSE/CPSE members have sufficient knowledge to make programmatic decisions regarding school age children with disabilities, such as:

    1. Pre-referral strategies;

    2. Regular education alternatives to special education;

    3. Serving students in the least restrictive environment;

    4. Use of supplementary aids and services in the general education setting;

    5. State and federal laws, regulations and policies regarding special education and general education; 

    6. IEP development and review;

    7. Behavior assessments/programs.

  18. Develops an annual review process that meets the needs of administrators to develop schedules for the next school year.  This includes gathering projections for anticipated program development needs before annual reviews begin, training staff on IEP development, coordinating program development with principals and working with the Director and the Business Office to develop fiscal models;

  19. Assists with the coordinating services and resources related to Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973; 

  20. Coordinates transportation for students with disabilities.

  21. Personnel and Employee Relations:

  22. Assists with supervising and evaluating all professional, paraprofessional, and support staff personnel associated with Student Support Services;

  23. Provides leadership and support in the scheduling and assignments, and the coordination of the evaluation of all student support services staff;

  24. Coordinates and delivers professional development for all student support services staff, including assisting in the development of the professional development plan and evaluating its effectiveness and impact on the District’s goals;   

  25. Assists with orienting newly assigned/hired staff members and assists in their development, as appropriate;

  26. Conducts staff meetings on a regular basis;

  27. Assists in the recruitment, selection, and hiring of new staff.

  28. School and Community Relationships:

    1. Coordinates parent outreach and parent involvement in the development of new programs and services to support students;

    2. Provides encouragement and information for parental participation in the special education process;

    3. Ensures regular communication with any individual the parent designates as a legal representative;

    4. Ensures communication with appropriate advocacy groups regarding special education issues;

    5. Collaborates with community agencies to provide coordinated supports and services to families within the District’s RtI process;

    6. Works with other local and state agencies and organizations, both public and private, to support students;

    7. Participates as a member of the district administrative team.

  29. Other Duties

  30. Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field;

  31. Participates and supports the District Strategic Plan and Board Goals;

  32. Participates in labor management meetings, building department meetings, district-level meetings, Board meetings, and other meetings as are required or appropriate;

  33. Assists the Director of Student Support Services with preparation of the special education budget.

  34. Responds to written and oral requests for information;

  35. Provides advice, support and assistance to the Director of Student Support Services and performs other duties as assigned. 

Salary $90,000 - $98,000
